Application requirements PhD

Candidates for Doctoral Fellowships should e-mail their

  1. CV,
  2. transcripts of degrees,
  3. a writing example (about 10 pages, for example an extract from the diploma or master thesis),
  4. a brief outline of a potential dissertation project within the GSBC,
  5. a letter of interest,
  6. the application formpdf, 58 kb · de and
  7. two letters of reference from academic teachers

to: jenagraduate(at)uni-jena.de.
The letters of reference should be directly sent to us by the recommenders.

We expect applicants to indicate with whom of Faculty members of the GSBC they plan to cooperate, how their previous expertise relates to their future research focus, and which specific interdisciplinary research questions they want to address in their work.

All applications are reviewed by the assessment committee. Promising candidates are invited to a personal interview. Each candidate is interviewed individually. The interview may consist of a short presentation by the applicant and a question-and-answer session. The presentation may focus either on the candidate’s past academic work (e.g., diploma or master thesis), or on the planned dissertation project.

Candidates should e-mail their

  3. a list of publications,
  4. the most important publication or a substantial research text (as pdf),
  5. an outline of their future research programme,
  6. the application formpdf, 58 kb · de and
  7. two letters of reference from academic teachers

to: jenagraduate(at)uni-jena.de.

The letters of reference should be directly sent to us by the recommenders.
Applicants are required to hold a superior PhD in one of the above mentioned disciplines or an equivalent degree in a related discipline. Candidates should have either already published in leading academic journals or show interest and potential to do so. Knowledge of German would be useful but is not required. All scholars are expected to choose Jena as their place of residence.
